Description of the material

This running game for physical education sends the learners out into the gym to search for picture cards featuring winter and Christmas motifs. At a command such as “Bring me a candle!”, everyone can set off at the same time, turn over face-down cards, and keep searching until they have found the matching picture. Whoever shows the card specified by the game leader gets a point.

What is included

  • Game instructions on setup, round structure, scoring, and game variations
  • Picture cards with winter and Christmas motifs such as reindeer, snowman, nutcracker, and angel
  • Commands in the simple version, which name the searched-for motif directly
  • Commands in the alternative version, which only describe the motif, such as “Bring me something that is built out of snow!”

Tips for using the material

  • Point pile: Each person can collect their found cards in their own pile at the edge of the playing area to keep track of them.
  • Round structure: Once all cards of a motif have been found, everyone lines up at the starting line again, and the game leader can read out the next command. At the end, you can count who has found the most cards.
  • Lay out face-up: As a variation, the picture cards can be laid out face-up in the playing area.
  • Varying starting positions: Each round can start differently, for example lying on your stomach, on your back, or sitting and looking behind you.

These skills are promoted

  • Reactivity by starting quickly at the command, even from varying positions
  • Speed when running and searching in the playing area
  • Visual perception when recognizing the matching motif on the cards
  • Combining when deciphering the described commands

Organizational notes

A game lasts about five to fifteen minutes. Each picture card is laid out in the playing area about six times.

Further ideas for the seasons: “Bring me!” as a spring edition, “Bring me!” as an autumn edition, and the memory run as a running game with a memorization task in winter.
