Description of the material
This game collection contains the game instructions for the throwing game Zombieball, also known as dodgeball, and many variants for physical education. Players can move freely around the playing field, pick up balls, and throw them at others. Anyone who is hit becomes a zombie and sits on the bench until the person who threw the ball is hit themselves.
What is included in the material
- Game instructions with the basic rules: how balls are introduced into the game, how long a ball can be held, and which hits count
- Additional rules to expand the basic game, such as tagging, blocking with the ball, or throwing freely from the bench
- Variants that modify the basic rules: different ways to return to the game, playing in pairs or teams, using equipment for hiding, or playing with the ball at your feet
Tips for using the material
- Lesson phase: Zombieball can be used as a warm-up or end-of-lesson game and is also suitable for an entire physical education lesson.
- More pace: More and more balls can be introduced into the game over time. If the pace slows down, the game leader can call a "zombie party": all zombies rejoin the game, and the game starts over.
- Keeping those who have been hit moving: Depending on the variant, those who have been hit can perform an exercise at the edge of the field, run laps around the playing field using specified running styles, continue playing in a crab walk, or chase the person who hit them as a zombie kangaroo with two-footed jumps.
- Combining: The variants can be creatively combined with each other, as well as with obstacles or additional fitness exercises.
- Other ball sports: Zombie dribbling can be played as a football, handball, or volleyball version.
- Inclusion: For example, wheelchair users can be given a shield to deflect the balls.
These skills are promoted
- Throwing and dodging skills when throwing, catching, and dodging
- Endurance through all the running, throwing, and dodging on the playing field
- Concentration, because those who have been hit must remember who hit them
- Teamwork when teams pass the ball to each other to throw together
Organizational notes
The basic game requires balls and a bench.
