Description of the material

Dice Yoga is a collection of children's yoga exercises in which a die determines which exercise comes next. The children roll the die and imitate the figure that corresponds to the number rolled on the overview sheet with names and illustrations. Sometimes they stand as a tree, other times they stretch like a cobra. Dice Yoga can be done at home as well as at school.

What is included in the material

  • Instructions explaining how Dice Yoga works
  • Dice Yoga 1 with standing exercises
  • Dice Yoga 2 with animal figures such as bear, beetle, and dolphin
  • Dice Yoga 3 with additional figures such as candle, bow, dragon, and twisting pose

Tips for using the material

  • Movement break in class: The standing exercises are ideal for short movement breaks because they can also be done in the classroom.
  • Duration of the exercise: For example, each exercise rolled can be performed for about 30 seconds.

These skills are promoted

  • Balance in one-legged poses such as tree and dancer
  • Flexibility when stretching and bending in poses such as cobra, bow, and half moon
  • Performing movements according to a model by imitating the figures shown

Organizational notes

Only a die is needed, such as a foam die; no equipment is required and only a little space is needed. One round of Dice Yoga takes about 3 to 5 minutes.

To complement this, there is children's yoga to roll as a poster, a yoga die to make, and more children's yoga exercises as picture cards.
