Description of the material
The sports hall becomes a course for handball golf in physical education with these station cards. At each station, students can throw the handball into the target at a different setup made of boxes, hoops, floor mats, goals, or benches. The stations are suitable for both primary and secondary school.
What is included in the material
- Station cards with a drawing of the setup and a list of the required equipment
- Example of a lesson with the sequence over several double periods
- Tips for everyday teaching regarding balls, equipment, and grade levels
- Blank template with fields for the name, material, and setup sketch of your own station
- Scorecard with a name field, on which the number of points for each station and the total at the end are recorded
Tips for using the material
- Course for getting started: With a selection of the station cards, a handball golf course can initially be set up. This allows students to get used to the ball and give each other tips.
- Your own stations: In another double period, it is a good idea to provide materials and equipment. The students can then come up with their own stations and targets, test them, improve them, and sketch them on the blank template for the next lesson.
- Small tournament: The self-designed stations can be set up again. The game rules developed together can then be applied in a small tournament.
- Handball golf in your free time: At the end, you can discuss how handball golf can be played outdoors, for example in the park, at sports and playgrounds, or in the forest.
- Different balls: Balls with different bounce and flight characteristics can also be used at the stations. In the lower grade levels, tennis balls or bouncy balls are particularly suitable because of their size.
These skills are promoted
- Ball control by learning about the flight, rolling, and bouncing characteristics of the ball
- Throwing and aiming at stations with different obstacles
- Creativity when coming up with, testing, and improving your own stations
- Agreeing on rules when developing game rules for the tournament together
Organizational notes
The stations mainly use equipment and materials that are available in a sports hall. Some materials should be organized beforehand if necessary.
The same game idea is also available with football, basketball, and the Frisbee disc; you can find stations for throwing, dribbling, and passing with the handball station cards.
