Description of the material
This material package contains over 20 station cards for basketball golf in physical education. Mini-golf and basketball come together: at each station, a throwing task awaits, which is to be completed from the starting line in as few attempts as possible. Sometimes the ball is to land in an upside-down box or in the basket, sometimes through a hanging hoop. At other stations, the crossbar of the goal can be aimed at or a cone knocked off the box. Whoever needs the fewest throws overall wins.
This is included in the material
- Implementation tips with information on suitability, adapting the stations, and additional lessons
- Possible lesson flow from warm-up to setup, main part, evaluation and reflection, and finally breakdown and award ceremony
- Game rules as an overview and as rule cards for the goal, scoring, starting point, and fair play
- Station cards with throwing task, required material, and distance information
- Gym plan as an example for setting up the stations in the sports hall
- Scorecard for recording the attempts per lane and the total sum
- Station labeling with numbers to mark the stations
Tips for using the material
- Preparation: Before the first round, the teacher can briefly introduce the chest pass and the chest pass.
- Warm-up: To start, the learners can pass the basketball to each other in pairs, increasing and decreasing the distances themselves, and then throw it at one of the baskets.
- Setup and breakdown: Each group can set up a station using the station cards, choose the distances between the equipment themselves, and then help the other groups; at the end, each group breaks down its station again.
- Game flow: After the teacher has explained the rules and stations, the small groups can move from station to station with their scorecard. The group continues when everyone in the group has completed the station.
- Evaluation and award ceremony: The teams can add up their attempts, write them down under "Total", and hand in the scorecard. At the award ceremony, the person with the fewest throws can be announced last.
- Reflection: In a round moderated by the teacher, the learners can describe how they held the ball when throwing and refer to the stations.
- Adapting: Throwing distances and stations can be adapted to the age and prior experience of the learning group. In primary school and fifth grade, it is recommended to reduce the height of the basket.
- Co-creating: The learners can contribute their own ideas and suggestions for designing the stations.
- Competition: In further lessons, two-person teams or larger groups can compete against each other; the team with the fewest throwing attempts wins.
- Locations: Basketball golf can be played in regular physical education and at school sports events, on the sports field, the playground, or in the sports hall.
- Music: Motivating music can create a lively atmosphere in the sports hall.
These competencies are promoted
- Throwing techniques such as short and long throws, throws with the ball touching the ground, and throws backward or blind at the basket
- Judging the flight and bounce behavior of the basketball when the ball is to land in the hoop, between mats, or in front of, between, and after benches
- Dosing throwing power so that the ball stays on the soft floor mat or in the box parts
- Fairness by ensuring that no one is distracted or hindered and that the attempts are honestly recorded on the scorecard
Organizational tips
The game is played in groups of four: Two learners throw alternately, the other two pause and record the attempts. In practice, six to nine stations have proven successful. In addition to basketballs, equipment from the sports hall such as boxes, hoops, gym benches, gymnastics and soft floor mats, cones, and the wall bars are used.
The same game idea is also available as badminton golf, handball golf, and frisbee golf; for preparing the chest pass and chest pass, the basketball technique cards are suitable.
