Description of the material

These setup cards bring dodgeball into the sports hall – dodgeball with obstacles made from boxes, benches, pommel horses and other gymnastics equipment. After throwing the ball, the learners run a lap to the finish line. Along the way, they can stop at any mat or obstacle, as they are safe from being “burned” there. The cards show each station as a drawing, so that the equipment can be set up quickly and safely.

What is included in the material

  • Game rules with game idea, procedure and scoring system, as well as the rules for the fielding team and running team
  • Setup plan showing the entire equipment setup in the sports hall at a glance
  • Setup cards for the individual stations, each showing the required equipment and usually a safety note for the setup

Tips for using the material

  • Setup in small groups: It is a good idea to form small groups, each setting up one station according to its card.
  • Safety check: After setup, all stations can be checked for safety once more.
  • Adapt to the learners: The height of the boxes, pommel horse and jumping box can be adjusted to make the stations easier or more difficult.

These skills are promoted

  • Assessing game situations, because the runners must decide whether to keep running or stop on a mat or obstacle
  • Moving on equipment, when the runners seek protection from being “burned” on boxes, pommel horses and other obstacles
  • Teamwork in the fielding team, because the ball can only reach the box as quickly as possible by passing
  • Safe equipment setup according to the card and safety note

Organizational notes

The mats are laid out along the edge of the playing area, with the obstacles placed between them. An upside-down box at the center line or close to the starting mark serves as the target for the ball.

To complement this, there are other dodgeball variants for physical education, certificates for a dodgeball tournament and other setup cards with a setup plan for an obstacle course.
