Description of the material
Takeshi's Temple is a running and throwing game in which two teams compete against each other on an obstacle course made of gymnastics equipment. The setup cards make setting up the obstacle course for physical education quick and easy – with a tunnel, benches for balancing, and protective walls made of storage boxes and mats. One team can run through the course and take cover behind the protective walls, while the other team tries to hit the runners with softballs.
What is included
- Game rules for the game involving the two teams, including the game flow, scoring, and role reversal
- Setup cards with a drawing of the station, the equipment required, and a note on safe setup
- Gym plans: an example plan with the obstacle course and benches, an overview of all setups, and a blank gym plan
Tips for using the materials
- Set up according to the plan: The example plan shows how the stations come together in the gym to form an obstacle course; the overview of all setups and the blank gym plan can also be used to create your own plan.
- Play against the clock: The running team can run through the obstacle course as many times as possible within a set time. Each run without being hit earns one point; anyone who is hit must immediately leave the course and go to the back of the line.
- Throwing line: Tilted benches can be used as a boundary behind which the throwing team stays.
- Throw the balls back: To ensure there are always enough balls, some members of the throwing team can stand on the other side of the obstacle course and throw the balls back.
- Role reversal: When the time is up, the teams switch roles so that each team can run and throw once. At the end, it will be clear which team had the better tactics and scored more points.
These skills are promoted
- Overcoming obstacles on equipment such as storage boxes, pommel horses, vaulting boxes, and stall bars
- Balance when balancing on the bench
- Target throwing with softballs at running people
- Tactical teamwork, both when running and throwing
Also suitable: Obstacle course on equipment with station cards, a team game on equipment with setup cards, and another throwing game with softballs.
