Description of the material
The throwing garden is a card set with stations for target throwing for physical education in primary and secondary schools. Using balls, hoops, rings, beanbags, or frisbees, learners can throw into boxes, through hoops, and onto mats, or hit a rolling gym ball. For the moving targets, a second person moves the target by, for example, rolling the hoop or pulling on a rope.
What is included in the material
- Station cards with people for static and moving throwing targets, each with equipment, a task, a setup diagram, and a specified throwing technique
- Station cards without people, on which no throwing technique is specified
- Introduction with organizational forms, the layout of the station cards, and overviews of throwing techniques and throwing objects
- Throwing challenge as a completed example and as a blank template, where stars are collected for a certain number of hits
- Indoor plan with an example setup of the stations in the sports hall
- Scorecard for recording hits or checking off the stations, plus a sheet where learners can record which throwing technique they were best able to use
- Differentiation cards for individual learners
- Station labeling with number signs for the stations
Tips for using the material
- Closed station rotation: Small groups can throw at one station for three to five minutes each and then move to the next one clockwise.
- Open station rotation: Each person can decide which station they want to try and when. Depending on the learning group, it can be suggested to try each station several times.
- Throwing challenge with scorecard: In pairs or groups of three, learners can record how they completed each station; an evaluation can be added at the end.
- Try different throwing techniques: In addition to the specified throwing technique, learners can try their own throwing techniques. The cards without people can be used to design the unit in a problem-oriented way.
- Easier or harder: The throwing distance, throwing object, or throwing technique can be changed at each station. The differentiation cards can be given to individual learners as an additional task or for support.
These competencies are promoted
- Accurate throwing at fixed targets and at rolling, swinging, or bouncing targets
- Throwing techniques such as overarm throwing, underarm throwing, or throwing from below can be learned and compared
- Self-assessment by recording their own hits and the throwing technique that works best
Organizational notes
Equipment from the sports hall is primarily required, such as cones, boxes, gym benches, hoops, or a soft floor mat; the setup diagrams usually indicate the approximate throwing distance.
To complement this, there is the Sprungarten for jumping in the same format, stations for throwing and catching, and handball golf with target throws at stations.
