Description of the material

These technique cards show the basic throws and catching techniques in Ultimate Frisbee for physical education classes and clubs. Sequences of images illustrate the Frisbee throwing technique from the grip to the release. This allows learners to follow each throw step by step.

What is included in the material

  • Technique cards for the basic throws backhand, forehand, and overhead: an overview card and one card for each throw featuring a sequence of images showing the movement and the grip from below and above
  • Technique card for catching techniques sandwich, two-handed at the edge, and one-handed at the edge
  • Technique descriptions that explain the grip and movement for each basic throw in words, including a grip variation that some players use

Tips for using the material

  • Throwing hand: The descriptions assume throwing with the right hand. Those who throw right can use this as a guide, noting that for all basic throws, the left leg is the standing leg and the right leg is positioned differently for each throw.

These skills are developed

  • Throwing technique by having learners follow the grip, foot positioning, and arm movement of the basic throws
  • Catching technique with one or both hands at the edge of the disc and in the sandwich
  • Recognizing movement sequences by viewing the sequences of images and views of the grip

To complement this, there are practice cards for throwing and catching with the disc, basketball technique cards, and throwing and catching stations.
