Description of the material
This collection brings together game ideas using the skateboard for physical education in primary school and in grades 5 and 6. The children can race each other, navigate slalom courses, catch one another, stop instantly on command, or be guided through an obstacle course with their eyes closed. In one game, groups build their own vehicles using skateboards and gymnastics equipment.
What is included in the material
- Game descriptions for relay, racing, tag, reaction, and ball games, each with duration, required equipment, and usually variations
- Graphics for each game showing the setup in the sports hall
- Table of contents with all games in alphabetical order
- Foreword with a classification of the games and safety tips for skateboarding
Tips for using the material
- Specify the mode of travel: In many games, you can decide how to ride, for example lying on your stomach, on your knees, or backwards.
- Add obstacles: In relays and riding games, additional obstacles such as slalom poles, cones, or mats can be set up to be ridden around; in partner tag games, they can serve as protection.
- Change social forms: The children can ride through the hall individually, play in pairs, with one person sitting and the other pushing, or compete against each other in teams.
- Switch roles: In the partner games, the children can regularly switch between riding and pushing, for example at the call of "switch riders" in partner tag games.
- Additional task instead of elimination: Anyone who reacts too late in a reaction game can be given a small additional task such as squats and then continues playing.
These skills are promoted
- Coordination on the skateboard when riding, turning, and braking in different positions such as lying on your stomach, sitting, or kneeling
- Reaction time to commands, stopping instantly, turning, or changing direction
- Spatial orientation when dodging on the hall lines, in slalom, and in obstacle courses
- Cooperation when pushing and steering together and in team relays
Organizational tips
For many games, each child needs their own skateboard, while one per team is sufficient for relays. Cones are usually enough; some games also use gymnastics benches, boxes, a soft-floor mat, a wall bars, or a music system.
To complement this, there is the skateboard license with station cards, the rules and riding positions on the skateboard as picture cards, and further relay games as a game card file.
