Description of the material

The Puzzle Run in the Carnival Edition is a running game in which teams collect and assemble puzzle pieces featuring images of children in costumes. In this running game for physical education, one person from each team retrieves a single piece at a time and then tags the next person. Meanwhile, the others try to solve the puzzle in the starting zone. This way, the children take turns running and assembling the puzzle together until the first team completes its picture and shouts “Stop!”

What is included

  • Game description with instructions, required materials, variations, and a layout diagram
  • Picture puzzles featuring children in carnival costumes, such as a pirate, clown, astronaut, or knight, in two versions, one with a white background
  • Blank template with the puzzle piece grid

Tips for using the materials

  • Timed: The game can also be played against the clock—in this case, the team that has assembled the most pieces after five minutes wins.
  • With a ball: The runners can dribble a ball on their way.
  • Other ways of moving, such as backward or crab walking, can also be introduced.

These skills are developed

  • Fast running on the way to the puzzle pieces and back to the starting line
  • Visual perception when assembling the pieces into a picture
  • Teamwork, because the waiting players solve the puzzle together
  • Ball control when dribbling in the ball variation

Organizational tips

The game is played with two to four teams, each standing in a row behind the starting line; the puzzle pieces are placed on the ground or on a box about 15 to 20 meters away. Cones and bibs complement the puzzles as game equipment.

The Puzzle Run is also available as a Spring Edition and a Summer Edition; the Memo Relay with costume cards and the Running game with memory task are also suitable for Carnival.
