Description of the material

Match! Spring Edition is a relay race for physical education in which two teams race against each other and search for the common symbol on cards with spring motifs. At the box, two children always meet and compare the two face-up cards. Whoever first correctly names the symbol that can be seen on both can take one of the cards and run back. The cards feature motifs such as a butterfly, watering can, rainbow, and Easter bunny.

Tips for using the material

  • As a relay race: The two teams can each line up behind the starting line. After each duel, both children immediately run back and tag the next team member, while the game leader places a new card, so that there are always two cards face up.
  • Scoring: Each won card can count as a point for the team; at the end, the team with the most cards wins.
  • As a running duel: Instead of a relay race, the game can also be played so that two children always compete against each other in a running duel, and after each duel, a new start signal follows.
  • With obstacles: On the way to the cards, obstacles such as a slalom, a balance beam, or hurdles can be set up.

These skills are promoted

  • Visual perception by comparing two cards and searching for the common symbol
  • Reaction speed when recognizing and naming the symbol in a direct duel
  • Speed when running to the box and back
  • Spring vocabulary by naming the motifs

Organizational notes

In addition to the cards, you only need a small box on which the cards are placed, and cones; the box is placed a good distance from the starting line.

The game is also available as a basic version with other symbols and in the Summer Edition; another relay race with spring cards is the Memo Relay Spring Edition.
