Description of the material

This relay race for physical education combines running with picture cards full of summer symbols such as sunglasses, ice cream, and watermelon. Two teams race to two face-up cards and look for the symbol that is the same on both. Whoever recognizes and names it first can take one of the cards for their team.

What is included in the material

  • Game instructions with procedure, material list, game duration, and variants
  • Match! cards in the summer edition, numbered and with picture symbols instead of text
  • Card backs in a matching summer design

Tips for using the material

  • Relay procedure: After each duel, both children can immediately run back to the starting line and high-five the next team member, while the game leader places a new card on the box.
  • Scoring: At the end, the collected cards can be counted as points, so the team with the most cards wins.
  • Running duel instead of relay: Two children can also always compete directly against each other, with each duel starting with a new start signal.
  • Obstacles: A slalom, a balance beam, or hurdles can be incorporated on the way to the cards.

These skills are promoted

  • Close observation when comparing two cards for the same summer symbol
  • Quick naming, because only the person who names the symbol first wins the card
  • Sprinting speed on the way to and from the starting line and the box
  • Agility when overcoming a slalom, balance beam, or hurdles in the obstacle variant

Organizational notes

In addition to the cards, you only need a small box and cones. The teams line up in a row behind the starting line, and the box is placed about 15 to 20 meters away.

To match this, there is the basic version of Match! with other symbols, as well as other summer relay races such as the Memo Relay and the Dice Relay.
