Fire, Water, Lightning: Fall Edition for Physical Education

The autumn edition of Feuer, Wasser, Blitz is a running game for physical education class with autumn commands and matching picture cards. While everyone runs all over the playing field, the game leader calls out a command at some point. Depending on the command, the children can then make themselves very small like a hedgehog, jump into a tire for “puddle,” or crawl around the room on all fours like a spider. Whoever performs the command last does a small extra exercise, such as push-ups or jumping jacks, after which everyone starts running again.

This is included in the material

• Game instructions with game description, required material, and all commands along with the corresponding movement
• Autumn picture cards for all commands, available with or without labels

Tips for using the material

• Music: Music can be played while the children are running.
• Selection of commands: Only a few of the commands may be used per game so that the children are not overwhelmed.
• Holding up picture cards: The game leader can hold up the matching picture card for the called command; students can also take on this task.

These skills are promoted

• Quick reactions, because the called action should ideally not be performed last
• Versatile movement through running, jumping, crawling, bending over, and spinning in circles
• Expressive movement by imitating autumn pictures such as a scarecrow, raking leaves, or mushroom picking

Organizational notes

Tires are required for the game. Obstacles such as boxes, mats, or benches can also be set up on the playing field.

You can find other editions of the game in the Halloween edition of Feuer, Wasser, Blitz, in the basic version with command picture cards, and in the winter edition; also available according to the season is the autumn running game Bring mir.
