Description of the material

An item of clothing or accessory, including the English word, all in capital letters and clearly visible: that is how our picture cards for clothes in primary school English are designed. With over 100 cards, the selection ranges from a simple T-shirt to a kilt, sombrero and top hat, going far beyond basic vocabulary. The cards are labelled in British English, with words such as jumper, trainers and wellies. You can use the cards to introduce new words, practise pronunciation, play vocabulary games or get children started with writing.

What is included:

  • Word-picture cards for clothes, shoes and accessories
  • Ideas for use in the classroom

Ways to use them in English lessons

  • When introducing new words, you can hold up a card and pronounce the word together with the class.
  • Working in pairs or groups, one child can describe an item of clothing while the others guess the word.
  • At learning stations, the cards can prompt short activities, such as forming a sentence about the picture.
  • For spelling, the children can write the word that matches the picture.

Learning objectives and skills supported

  • Vocabulary: link names for clothes, shoes and accessories with pictures
  • Pronunciation: pronounce English words together and individually to match the picture
  • Speaking: describe an item of clothing and guess the correct word
  • Writing: spell the words correctly to match the pictures

With translations on the back, the words are available as Vocabulary Cards, or as a Memo Game.

Enjoy trying them out and showing them!
