Description of the material

With this vocabulary game, children practice English words related to the beach: they roll the dice, move their piece along the game board, and say the English word for the picture they land on. Whoever correctly says the word for pictures such as sandcastle, jellyfish, or sunglasses stays on the square; for an incorrect word, the piece moves back one square.

The following materials are included

  • Game board with a path from “Start” to “End,” featuring 27 different beach pictures, three squares with a dice symbol for rolling again, and English-labeled event squares such as “Skip a turn!,” “+1 step,” or “-2 steps”
  • Game instructions in German, explaining the course of play, the picture and event squares, and the end of the game: the first person to reach the last square wins.

Tips for using the materials

The game can be used flexibly and is ideal, for example, for a station-based activity.

The following skills are promoted

  • Vocabulary, because the children recall and say the English word for each picture square
  • Pronunciation, because the children pronounce the English words as soon as their piece lands on a picture

To complement the theme, there are also the Word and Picture Cards, the Smalltalk Game, the Match, and the card game Floppi.
