Description of the material

Floppi is a card game for English lessons in which children take turns drawing picture cards from a bag and naming English words related to the beach, such as sandcastle, jellyfish or sunscreen. If they say the correct word, they get to keep the card; if they draw a Floppi card, they must return all the cards they have collected, so that luck plays a role alongside skill.

What is included in the material

  • 36 picture cards, each with a beach-themed image but without the English word on the card
  • 6 Floppi cards, which go into the bag together with the picture cards
  • Word list with the 36 English terms for the picture cards
  • Game instructions with the course of play, winning rule and options for the game leader

Tips for using the material

  • In a circle or at their desks: The game can be played in a circle or directly at the regular seats while the teacher carries the bag around.
  • Game leader: If no natural game leader emerges, the game can be time-limited or ended by the teacher.

These skills are promoted

The children reinforce their English vocabulary related to the beach by recalling and naming the correct term for each picture they draw.

Organizational notes

The cards are cut out before the game and can be laminated; a bag is also needed.

On the topic of the beach, there is also a Bingo, the game I have, who has, a Lotto and word and picture cards.
