Beach / Strand: Match! for English class

Match! is a card game for English lessons that helps children review English words related to the beach, such as sandcastle, jellyfish, or flip-flops. Each card shows six pictures, and every two cards always have one identical picture, which the players must identify and name as quickly as possible.

What is included

• 31 game cards, each showing six pictures representing 31 English beach-related terms, with the matching picture on the two cards possibly being different sizes
• Game instructions with two game variants and a tie-break duel

Tips for using the material

• With a game leader: One person can act as the game leader, place one card face up in the middle, and reveal a second one on a signal; whoever first identifies and names the match wins the card that has been in the middle the longest.
• Without a game leader: The players can also reveal the second card themselves one after the other.
• With their own card: In the second variant, each person receives one face-down card; everyone turns theirs over at the same time on a signal and looks for the picture that is also shown on the top card of the deck in the middle; whoever names it first places that card face up on their own.
• In the event of a tie, a duel can be played: Both people turn over a card from their own deck at the same time, and whoever first calls out the matching symbol wins.

The following skills are promoted

• Vocabulary: recognize and quickly name English words related to the beach
• Visual perception: find identical pictures among six motifs, even if they are different sizes

Organizational notes

• Group size: Played in small groups of 2 to 6 people at a table, so that everyone can clearly see the deck in the middle.
• Preparation: The cards can be printed on thicker paper, cut out, and laminated.
