Description of the material

Letter Yoga combines the alphabet with children's yoga exercises: There is an illustrated yoga pose for every letter from A to Z. Children can turn a word—such as their name—into yoga poses letter by letter, creating a short yoga flow. Since only a little space is needed, Letter Yoga can be done at school just as easily as at home or in the garden.

What is included in the material

  • Instructions explaining how Letter Yoga works
  • Possible questions that the children can answer with Letter Yoga, plus an example word demonstrating the poses for each letter
  • List of poses providing an overview of the entire alphabet with illustrations of the poses, also available in a version with a dashed border

Tips for using the material

  • One question a day: For example, the teacher can ask the children a question every day that they "answer" by performing the poses for the letters of the answer word.
  • Short duration: Each pose can be held for about half a minute, so a yoga flow only takes a few minutes; the longer the answer, the longer it will be.
  • A list for everyone: The list of poses can be given to the children so that they can find the right pose for each letter.

These skills are promoted

  • Relaxation and mindfulness through short yoga flows
  • Flexibility and balance while imitating the illustrated yoga poses, such as standing on one leg
  • Letter recognition, because the children break a word down into its letters and assign a pose to each letter

The Letter Workout with fitness exercises works on the same principle; additional children's yoga poses are available as picture cards and for yoga for two.
