Description of the material

The Bobby license is a package with stations for children's gymnastics, where the children ride their ride-on cars through a course in the sports hall. Along the way, they can weave through cones in a slalom, drive through tunnels and a car wash, refuel at the gas station, park, and carefully roll down a hill. Road signs turn the hall into a little traffic world, and anyone who follows the traffic rules can receive their own license at the end of the session.

What is included in the material

  • Instructions for the session with checklists for preparing and conducting the session
  • Station cards with the task, an illustration, and the equipment required for each station
  • Road signs matching the stations, plus a sign for a pedestrian crossing
  • Setup plans for a course, a race track, and a relay race
  • Licenses to be filled out, with space for the date, the driving candidate, and the examiner

Tips for using the material

  • Course or race track: The stations can be set up into a course in the hall according to the setup plans; alternatively, a race track can be created; a suitable outdoor area is also possible.
  • Vehicles: In addition to ride-on cars, the children can also ride a tricycle or a balance bike.
  • Pedestrian crossing: Optionally, pedestrian crossings can be added, where the children stop when another person wants to cross the road.
  • Pushing off from a kneeling position: The children can kneel with one leg into the seat of most ride-on cars and push off with the other leg.
  • Age group: The material is intended for children aged two to five, with or without adult supervision; however, it can also be used with older children.

These skills are promoted

  • Steering and control during the slalom, in the roundabout, and when parking between the boxes
  • Braking by coming to a full stop in the cone square
  • Balance when riding over the bumpy track and down the hill
  • Observing traffic rules, for example at the road signs and the pedestrian crossing

Organizational notes

  • The stations require equipment from the sports hall, such as cones, boxes, long benches, gymnastics mats, and springboards; alternative equipment can be considered in advance.
  • Each child needs a clean vehicle, which should be checked for defects before starting.
  • Adults help with the setup and during the session; the instructors and parents secure the children at the downhill station.
  • The road signs can be printed, laminated, taped to a slalom pole, and placed in front of the respective station.
