Description of the material

In the Halloween edition of the dice relay, teams race each other, roll dice, and cross off numbers on images such as a ghost and a pumpkin. In this relay race for primary school, luck of the dice is also important in addition to speed. Each child can only roll the dice once per run; if the number has already been crossed off, they return to the starting line without crossing it off. The team that crosses off all the numbers first wins.

What is included in the material

  • Game description with game procedure, rules, and variants
  • Dice relay templates to print out, each featuring a Halloween image with the dice numbers to cross off

Tips for using the material

  • Timed: Alternatively, the relay can end after five minutes; then the team with the most numbers rolled wins.
  • With a ball or a new way of moving: The children can dribble a ball on their way, or a way of moving can be specified, such as backwards or crab walking.
  • Two colors, one template: The teams can also share a template and cross off numbers with two differently colored pens; whoever has crossed off more numbers at the end wins.

These skills are promoted

  • Speed during the runs between the starting line and the template
  • Recognizing numbers when matching the rolled number with the numbers on the template
  • Coordination when dribbling a ball or during specified ways of moving such as crab walking

Organizational notes

In addition to the printed templates, the game requires pens and dice. The teams line up in a row behind the starting line, and the templates are placed on the ground or on a box about 15 to 20 meters away. After each run, the child at the starting line claps the next person in the team out. One round takes about 5 to 15 minutes.
