Description of the material

Don't Say It! is an explanation game in which learners describe tools from the workshop in their own words and their team guesses the term. Each card shows a picture and the name of a tool, and below that, words that are forbidden when explaining. The person explaining must therefore describe exactly what the tool looks like and what it is used for. The game is played in teams, and each guessed term earns one point. The game is designed for primary school students from grade 3 up to grade 8 in lower secondary school.

What's included:

  • Game instructions: Rules, procedure, and scoring
  • Explanation cards: 118 cards with a picture, technical term, and three forbidden words
  • Categories: 31 cards on wood, 62 on general-purpose tools, 16 on metal, and 9 on electronics

Uses in workshop and technology classes

After introducing the tools, the game is suitable for review with the whole class. The cards from one category, such as wood, round off a series of lessons, while just a few cards are enough for a short round at the end of a lesson.

Learning objectives and skills promoted

  • Explaining: describe a tool without using the forbidden words
  • Deduction: find the correct technical term from a description
  • Vocabulary: use other technical terms such as thread, blade, or radius

From the same series, there are also worksheets, a memory game, dominoes, bingo, Match!, and posters, as well as the tool picture cards; all together they are part of the tools material package.

Have fun trying it out!
