Description of the material

With this domino set, students in craft and technology classes can learn about tools and name them correctly. Each card shows a term on the left and a picture of a different tool on the right, so that the cards can be laid out one after another in a chain from START to END. Because each term appears only once, the chain will only work if everything is in the correct order, allowing students to check their own work. There is a separate domino set for each area, so the specific area currently being studied can be practiced. The game is designed for primary school students from grade 3 onwards and is also suitable for lower secondary school students up to grade 8.

What is included:

  • Instructions: briefly on using it in class
  • Wood domino set: 32 tools
  • Universal domino set: 62 tools
  • Metal domino set: 16 tools
  • Electronics domino set: 9 tools
  • START and END cards: for each of the four domino sets

Ways to use it in craft and technology classes

Two children work together to lay out a chain and agree on which card fits. In a station-based activity, each station is assigned an area, for example, wood at one and metal at another.

Learning objectives and skills promoted

  • Technical terms: name tools correctly
  • Matching: match terms and pictures
  • Reading: read technical terms confidently

Differentiation

The shorter electronics or metal domino sets are easier to start with, while the universal domino set or two mixed domino sets are more challenging.

From the same series, there are also worksheets, a memory game, bingo, Match!, posters and Don't Say It!, as well as the tool picture cards; all together in the tools resource pack.

Have fun trying it out!
