Description of the material

These worksheets on tools help students learn the technical terms for tools in technology and design classes. On each sheet, students label the tools shown, with a word bank of suitable terms to help them. Organized by woodworking, general-purpose, metalworking, and electronics, the sheets cover the same tools as the picture cards and games in the series. Answer sheets for all the worksheets allow students to check their own work. They are suitable for use from grade 3 in primary school through grade 8 in lower secondary school.

What's included:

  • Worksheets: eight "Label the tools" sheets featuring up to 16 tools and a word bank
  • Areas: two woodworking sheets with 32 tools, four general-purpose sheets with 62 tools, and one each for metalworking and electronics
  • Answer sheets: for each sheet, with the correct terms filled in

Uses in technology and design classes

After an introduction, students write down the names of tools in one area. Without help, a sheet can be used as a knowledge check, while during independent work students check their own answers using the provided answer sheet.

Learning objectives and skills supported

  • Technical terms: correctly write the names of tools in one area
  • Spelling: correctly spell compound terms such as curved-jaw pliers
  • Distinguishing: similar tools such as rasps and files or different types of squares

Differentiation

With the word bank, students simply match the terms. If the word bank is covered, they write the terms from memory.

The same series also includes a memory game, dominoes, bingo, Match!, posters, Don't Say It!, and tool picture cards; all together in the tools resource pack.

Enjoy trying them out!
