Description of the material
For a jump rope unit in primary school, you will find exercise cards here ranging from the basic jump to jumps with a long rope. The children can jump alone, in pairs, or in a group. They swing the rope backward, hop on one leg, cross their arms, or run into the swinging long rope. Dots on each card indicate whether a jump is easy, medium, or difficult. The cards can also be used in upper primary schools as an introduction to rope skipping.
What is included in the material
- Exercise cards with individual exercises, partner exercises, and group exercises with a long rope, each with an illustration and short instructions
- Exercise cards with descriptions, which explain each jump in more detail
- Information sheets on the correct rope length, jumping technique, and tips for practicing
- Posters with an overview of individual, partner, and group exercises
- Challenges for checking off or counting jumps, alone and in pairs, as well as challenges for as many jumps as possible in one minute without mistakes, each with an evaluation table
- Jump rope certificates in several versions, one of which features the jumps demonstrated safely
- Methodological tips with various ways to use the cards in class
Tips for using the material
- Open circuit training: The cards can be laid out in the gym in increasing order of difficulty. Everyone starts with the basic jump and independently moves on to the next station. More advanced children can assist the others.
- Independent work: The cards can be hung on the wall or laid out, so that the children can decide which exercises they want to try.
- Partner or small group work: With a challenge, the children can try the different jumps together and support each other.
- Demonstration and imitation: The teacher can demonstrate the jumps while the children stand facing them and imitate the jumps.
- First with an intermediate jump: New jumps can first be tried with intermediate jumps and then without.
- Variations with the long rope: Jumping with a long rope can be varied, for example by jumping on one leg, catching a ball, or jumping together in pairs.
The following skills are promoted
- Sense of rhythm when swinging and jumping over the rope evenly
- Balance, for example when jumping on one leg or doing slalom jumps
- Coordination of arms and legs in jumps such as crossed arms or hip turns
- Speed and endurance in the timed and mistake-free challenges
- Coordination with others when jumping and swinging together in the partner and long rope exercises
Organizational tips
Jumping is done with jump ropes, and group exercises use a long rope; one variation also includes a ball. It is important that there is enough space for every child.
To complement this, there are more jump cards for the long rope, jumping and hopping games, and exercise cards and challenges for the hula hoop.
