Description of the material
In this material you will find technique cards for running, jumping, throwing and putting for athletics in physical education and in sports clubs. The techniques are presented as image sequences and divided into phases such as take-off, flight and landing, with the movement characteristics indicated directly on the image. This allows learners to see exactly where the foot lands, when the body extends and how the arms swing.
What is included in the material
- Technique cards for running with crouch start and setting the starting block, sprint stride, distance running, race walking, hurdling stride and between-hurdle strides
- Technique cards for throwing and putting with the hold for shot put, javelin, discus, hammer throw and javelin, standing put, glide, crossover and rotational putting techniques, as well as javelin throw, discus throw, hammer throw and javelin throw
- Technique cards for jumping with long jump approach and take-off, squat, step, hang and running long jump, as well as the Fosbury flop in high jump
- Image sequences without descriptive text for the techniques, with only the names of the phases
- Comparisons of sprint, distance running and walking strides, of glide and crossover techniques, as well as of step, hang and running long jump
- Literature and links to the sources on which the cards are based
Tips for using the material
- Start shot put with the standing put: Once the standing put technique is mastered, the glide, crossover and rotational putting techniques can follow.
- Throws from a standing position: Javelin and discus throws can initially be performed from a standing position without rotation.
- Prepare javelin throw with a ball: The movement sequence can be practiced beforehand with a ball, as with the hammer throw.
- Complex techniques for older students: Rotational putting technique and running long jump require a lot of practice and, in our experience, are only suitable from grade 10 onwards.
- Squat jump: Children and adolescents can often perform this technique intuitively, even without practice.
These competencies are promoted
- Divide movement sequences into phases, for example the drive phase, plant phase, release and catch in the hammer throw
- Distinguish techniques by characteristics such as the flight phase and foot landing in sprint, distance running and walking strides
- Know the technical terms of athletics such as non-weight leg, plant leg, drive leg and release angle
The topic can be explored in greater depth with the practical handbooks on sprinting, long jump and hammer throw; matching the running technique, there are also exercise cards for the basics of running.
