Description of the material

With this swimming meditation, Feuer, Wasser, Blitz becomes a game in the water – with your own commands and a picture card for each command. The children move freely in the water until the game leader whistles and calls out a command. Depending on the command, they can dive like a shark or bubble underwater like a pufferfish. As a whirlpool, they spin in a circle in pairs, and as manta rays, they lie flat on the water.

This is included in the material

  • Game description with the course of the game and instructions for the game leader
  • Command overview, which briefly describes the corresponding movement in the water for each command
  • Picture cards for all commands, once with and once without labels

Tips for using the material

  • Music can play during the free movement in the water until the next command comes.
  • Selecting commands: To avoid overwhelming the group, it is recommended to set no more than six commands for one game.
  • Holding up picture cards: The game leader can show the appropriate card for each command; children can also take on this task.
  • Additional task: Whoever performs a command last completes a small additional task – jumping jacks, for example, are a good option.

These skills are promoted

  • Water confidence through submerging, bubbling, rolling underwater, and lying on the water
  • Reaction speed, because the appropriate movement should follow the whistle and command as quickly as possible
  • Versatile movement in the water through jumping, galloping, spinning, and rolling together
  • Cooperation in pairs when diving through each other's legs and spinning together in a circle

Organizational notes

No additional material is required; the picture cards serve only as support.

Feuer, Wasser, Blitz is also available as a summer edition and as the basic version with picture cards; you can find more games for swimming lessons in the games in the water and the exercise cards for water confidence.
