Description of the material

When doing the puzzles, the children review the Zoo Animals in primary school English lessons. Each animal includes a picture, the English word, and a short riddle in which the animal introduces itself. The children mix up the pieces and put them back together to form the corresponding animal.

What is included in the material

  • Puzzle templates of zoo animals such as elephant, penguin, kangaroo, and meerkat
  • Instructions with procedure and possible uses

Tips for using the material

  • For working with the puzzles, partner work, a station-based approach, or individual remedial lessons are suitable.
  • It may be useful to have the children glue the completed pieces into their exercise books afterwards.

These skills are promoted

  • Vocabulary: English names of zoo animals such as giraffe, penguin, or hippopotamus
  • Reading comprehension: read short English descriptions and match them to the correct animal
  • Word-picture matching: connect the English word and animal picture

Organizational notes

The templates are printed, laminated, and cut out. The children can receive the puzzles already cut out or cut out the templates themselves.

To match, the Zoo Animals are also available as a matching circle with word, picture, and description, as riddle cards with the same descriptions, and as a star puzzle for word-picture matching.
