Description of the material

In this memory game, children flip over cards and match each English animal name with the corresponding picture. The vocabulary of zoo animals in primary school English lessons ranges from lion, monkey and giraffe to rarer animals such as meerkat, sloth or yak.

What is included in the material

  • Playing cards: for each zoo animal, a word card with the English name and a picture card with the corresponding illustration
  • Instructions: game rules and objective at a glance

Tips for using the material

  • It is recommended to shuffle the cards and lay them face down on the playing area; the learners then take turns flipping over two cards each.
  • The material provides clear rules for the game: If someone finds a pair, they may keep it and flip over another pair. If the cards do not match, they are turned face down again and the next person takes a turn.
  • The collected pairs can be used for scoring: The person with the most at the end wins.

These skills are promoted

  • Vocabulary: reinforce the English names of zoo animals
  • Reading: recognize written English animal names and match them with the corresponding picture
  • Memory: remember the position of already revealed cards
