Description of the material

In the sneak dictation, the children read English number words on cards around the classroom, memorize them, and write them down at their desks. In doing so, they learn the spelling of the Numbers and practice quietly in primary school English class, each child at their own pace.

What is included in the material

  • Instructions: procedure and rules of the sneak dictation in German
  • Word cards: the English number words from zero to twenty-nine, each with the corresponding numeral
  • Worksheets: numerals next to which the children write the corresponding number word, one sheet for each ten-number range, each in one version with lines and one with a simple writing line

Tips for using the material

  • It is recommended to first select the number words to be practiced and hang the corresponding cards in different places around the classroom; each child receives a worksheet.
  • It makes sense to start with a signal from the teacher: All children sneak quietly to a card, return to their desks just as quietly, write down the word, and then go to the next card.
  • The rules are important: Nothing is copied, and no one speaks or reads aloud.
  • The end of the exercise is best marked by the moment when all children have written down all the words.

These skills are promoted

  • Vocabulary: match English number words to the corresponding numeral
  • Spelling: correctly write number words from memory
  • Memory: retain a word on the way from the card to their desk

To complement this, there are worksheets on which the children write number words, material for movement with the number words, and a learning check on the same vocabulary.
