Description of the material

The German word is on the left, the English word on the right – that’s how the children label each picture of clothing twice on these pages. This helps primary school children practice the English vocabulary for clothes and see at a glance where the two languages are similar and where they are not. In addition to everyday clothing such as jumpers or socks, special items are also included, from cowboy hats to dirndls. Each page comes with an answer sheet so that the children can compare the words themselves.

What’s included:

  • Worksheets for labelling pictures in German and English
  • Answer sheets for all pages

As an example, only the first line of the first page is completed with “das T-Shirt” and “T-shirt”.

Ways to use them in English lessons

Common items of clothing are at the front, while less common words are at the back – so you can choose the pages depending on the class. Because the children learn new words while reinforcing familiar ones, the worksheets are suitable for both introducing and revising the topic.

Learning objectives and skills developed

  • Vocabulary: naming and writing items of clothing in English
  • Language comparison: comparing German and English words, including articles
  • Writing: correctly writing words in both languages

To complement these, there are Draw the Lines 3 for matching German and English words and the Vocabulary Cards.

Have fun trying them out and translating!
