Description of the material

T-shirt, jumper or winter jacket – which picture and which description belong to which word? In the Clothes Laying Circle for English in Primary School, children match the appropriate cards to form sets. Bit by bit, a colorful circle forms around the center. Because there is a version with short English descriptions and one with only a word and picture, you can make the task easier or more challenging. The children can work alone, in pairs, or in small groups.

This is included:

  • Laying circle with word, picture, and description
  • Laying circle with word and picture
  • Center pieces for both circles

This also includes a short set of instructions.

Possible uses in English lessons

The cards can be laid out randomly on the floor or on a large table until the children match them to form sets. At the end, you can discuss the completed circle together. The circle can also be used well at a station or in a support lesson.

Learning objectives and skills promoted

  • Vocabulary: match English clothing words such as jumper, trousers, and jogging bottoms with a picture and description
  • Reading comprehension: match a short English description to the correct piece of clothing
  • Distinguish terms: differentiate between similar pieces of clothing such as jacket and winter jacket or undershirt and underpants

Other matching tasks are the puzzle and the Star Puzzle.

Have fun trying it out and laying it out!
