Description of the material

Two cards lie face up on the table, and both show the same piece of clothing – sometimes large, sometimes very small. The first person to spot it and name it in English wins the card. That’s how “Match!” works, our fast-paced clothes card game for primary school English. It is played in small groups of two to six children, with or without a game leader. Because you have to look closely and have the word ready at once, the class can revise the clothing vocabulary in a fun and engaging way.

What’s included:

  • Playing cards, each featuring six pieces of clothing
  • Instructions for two game variants
  • Instruction card and title card for the card set
  • Card backs
  • Word list

How to use it in English lessons

During the practice phase, you can provide several tables with one set of cards each, so all groups can play at the same time. A quick round is also perfect for station work or the last few minutes before break.

Learning objectives and skills supported

  • Vocabulary: recognise and name items of clothing such as jumper, trousers or wellies
  • Speaking: recall and pronounce English words spontaneously under time pressure
  • Close observation: compare two cards and find the matching picture

Other games on the same topic include Bingo, Floppi and I have..., who has...?.

Have fun trying it out and searching!
