Description of the material

Floppi turns the clothes vocabulary in primary school English lessons into a card game where not only skill but also luck counts. The children take turns drawing a picture card from the bag and may keep it if they correctly name the piece of clothing in English. But if someone draws a Floppi card, they must put all the cards they have collected back into the bag. This keeps it exciting until the very end to see who has the most cards. You can play in a circle or right at your desks.

This is included:

  • Picture cards with pieces of clothing
  • Floppi cards
  • Word list with pictures
  • Game instructions

The word list uses British English, so for example jumper, trousers and wellies.

Possibilities for use in English lessons

With the bag, you can go around the circle and let the children draw cards one by one. If the game does not come to a natural end, it can also be ended after a set amount of time. Floppi is suitable for playfully reviewing the clothing words, for example at the end of the lesson or in between.

Learning objectives and skills promoted

  • Vocabulary: recall clothing words based on the picture alone
  • Speaking: say the English word aloud in front of the group
  • Repetition: playfully refresh and consolidate the clothing vocabulary

Other naming games are the Education Lotto, the Vocabulary Wheel of Fortune and the Bingo.

Have fun trying it out and drawing!
