Description of the material

In this material you will find picture templates for a spinning wheel where children name, write down or use English baking words such as flour, whisk or rolling pin in a sentence.

What is included in the material

  • Game instructions with six ways to play the spinning wheel game and preparation tips
  • Picture templates for the spinning wheel in four versions with 24, 12, 20 or 40 pictures
  • Word list with all 40 pictures and the corresponding English words

Tips for using the material

  • Vocabulary practice: One child can spin the wheel while another says the word; the person who says the word correctly may spin next.
  • Writing: After each spin, everyone else can write the word in their notebook, and at the end the words can be compared and corrected together.
  • Storytelling and questions: The children can use the word landed on in a short story or a grammatically correct sentence, or ask a question about it that another child can answer.
  • As a quiz: Two children can compete against each other, and the first person to say the word correctly gets a point; the quiz can also be played in teams.
  • As bingo: The children write nine words in a nine-square grid and cross off the word landed on if it is in their grid; the first person to get three words in a row, column or diagonal shouts “Bingo” and wins.

The following skills are promoted

  • Vocabulary: naming English words for baking ingredients and kitchen utensils from pictures
  • Writing: writing down the words landed on and correcting them together
  • Sentence formation: using the words in sentences, short stories or questions
