Description of the material
Don’t say it! is an explanation game in which learners describe English terms related to baking such as rolling pin, baking powder or cookie cutter without using the three forbidden words on their card, while their own team has to guess the term.
This is included in the material
- 36 explanation cards with a picture, one English baking term and three forbidden words
- Game instructions with the team-based procedure, scoring and rules for explaining
Tips for using the material
- Play in teams: The class can play in two or three teams, with one team member coming to the front to explain the term; after one minute, it is the other team’s turn.
- Explain without aids: In addition to the forbidden words, gestures, variations of the target word and translations are not allowed when describing.
- Points and winning: If the team guesses the term before time runs out, it gets one point, and after a predetermined number of rounds, the team with the most points wins.
These skills are promoted
- Vocabulary related to baking, from ingredients such as flour, sugar and butter to kitchen appliances such as hand mixer, sieve and kitchen scale
- Speaking, because learners have to describe a term freely and use alternative words
- Listening comprehension, because the guessing team has to understand the description to find the term
To match this, Baking is also available as Vocabulary Cards, Bingo, Smalltalk Game and Memo Game.
