Description of the material

During this presentation, the children review English words related to the Arctic and Antarctic in a short exercise break: they march on the spot and shout out the appropriate word for each picture, such as penguin, walrus or dog sled. If a fitness exercise such as star jumps or arm circles appears instead of a picture, the children do the exercise before the pictures continue.

What is included in the material

  • 36 picture slides, each showing a picture for an English word
  • 11 fitness exercises on their own slides, each with a picture and English name, such as circle your hips, roll your shoulders or shake it out
  • Classroom instruction slide showing the procedure using an example picture
  • Teacher instructions with the procedure for the exercise break
  • Vocabulary overview with all 36 English words and their pictures

Tips for using the material

The pace can be chosen freely, as the teacher decides how long each slide remains on screen.

These skills are promoted

  • Vocabulary: Since the picture slides do not show a word, the children recall the English terms themselves, from animals such as walrus and puffin to clothing such as scarf and gloves, and windy and icicle.
  • Balance during exercises such as balance position and stand on one leg

On the topic of Arctic & Antarctic, there is also a Vocabulary Quiz, a Running Dictation, the game I have … who has? and Word and Picture Cards.
