Description of the material

Running Dictation is a stealth dictation for English lessons in which children practice English words related to the Arctic and Antarctic such as polar bear, penguin or igloo. They sneak quietly to the word cards hanging around the classroom, memorize one word and write it at their desk next to the corresponding picture on the worksheet.

This is included in the material

  • Instructions explaining the procedure and rules of the stealth dictation
  • 30 word cards, each with a picture and the English word, from polar bear to winter boots and musk ox
  • 6 worksheets, each with 10 pictures for writing down the words: three sheets cover all 30 words and are available once with lined paper and once with plain writing lines

Tips for using the material

  • Word selection: The teacher can select the vocabulary to be practiced in advance and hang only these cards in different places around the classroom.
  • Start signal and end: At the teacher's start signal, all children can begin at the same time, and the exercise ends when all children have written down all the words.
  • Rules: Nothing is copied, no one speaks or reads aloud, and everyone works at their own pace.

These skills are promoted

  • Vocabulary, because the children read each word and match it to the corresponding picture
  • Spelling, because the words are written correctly from memory
  • Memory, because the children memorize the word on their way back from the card to their desk

To complement the topic, there are also the Word and Picture Cards, the Vocabulary Worksheet, the Vocabulary Fitness and the Vocabulary Mini Test.
