Description of the material

The Beep Test is a shuttle run for physical education, where a German-language audio with sound signals sets the running pace. With each signal, you go to the opposite line, and you must arrive there before the next tone sounds – over time, the intervals get faster and faster. This allows the learners to show up to what level they can keep up the pace.

This is included in the material

  • Instructions with a description of the procedure and a graphic for the setup in the gym
  • Evaluation sheet for entering names and achieved levels
  • German-language audio with the sound signals, plus a link with a QR code to the audio on YouTube

Tips for using the material

  • In pairs: The class can be divided into pairs before the run. One person starts at the starting line, the other sits on the sidelines, watches, cheers, and remembers the level at which their partner is eliminated.
  • Joker: Thanks to a joker, each person can misjudge themselves once – you are only eliminated if you do not reach the opposite line in time for the second time.
  • Record levels: The exercise leader can record the achieved levels of all participants in the evaluation sheet; it has columns for multiple runs with dates.

These competencies are promoted

  • Endurance running at increasing speed
  • Judging pace to reach the line before the next sound signal
  • Watching and cheering on the running partner

Organizational notes

For the setup, a starting line and an opposite line are marked with cones at a distance of 20 meters. In addition, you need a music box for the audio, a pen, and the evaluation sheet.

To match this, there is a timed fitness challenge, endurance games to prepare for the test, and exercise cards for running basics.
