Description of the material

With this worksheet, children learn the English names of zoo animals: they label pictures of the elephant and the giraffe to the meerkat, sloth and toucan. By writing the words themselves, they reinforce their vocabulary of Zoo Animals for primary school English lessons.

What is included in the material

  • Worksheets with word bank: pictures of animals with writing lines; the required English words are in a box at the bottom of the page.
  • Worksheets without word bank: the same pictures of animals with writing lines, with the addition of hyena, wolf, orangutan and yak.
  • Answer keys: completed sheets for both versions.
  • Instruction page: a brief explanation of the task and the differentiation of the worksheet.

Tips for using the material

  • The material offers two versions for different learning levels: on the sheets with a word bank, the provided words help with labeling; on the sheets without a word bank, the children write the names without prompts.
  • The already labeled example of the elephant on the first sheet of each version is helpful: it shows how the words are written on the lines below the pictures.

These skills are promoted

  • Writing: correctly spelling English words, with or without a word bank
  • Vocabulary: recognizing zoo animals in the pictures and assigning them their English names

More labeling sheets with the same vocabulary can be found in Vocabulary Worksheet 2 and Vocabulary Worksheet 3; the Vocabulary Poster is suitable for looking up the words, and the Vocabulary Mini Test for checking learning.
