Description of the material

In this vocabulary quiz on the whiteboard, children practice and reinforce the vocabulary related to zoo animals in primary school English lessons. In the first part, they see a picture of an animal and choose the correct one from several English words. In the second part, each picture slide simply asks “What is that?”, so that the children name the animal without any choices.

What is included in the material

  • Multiple-choice quiz: Slides with one animal picture each and answer options A to D, each followed by an answer slide where the correct answer is highlighted in color
  • “What is that?” picture quiz: Picture slides of the same zoo animals, each followed by a slide with the English animal name
  • Answer cards: Printable template with the letters A, B, C and D
  • Instructions: brief description of the procedure on the interactive whiteboard

Tips for using the material

  • In practice, it has proven effective to read the question on each slide aloud, give a few seconds to think, and then count down from three.
  • It is useful for all children to hold up an answer card at the same time on “zero”; the answer is then revealed together.
  • For a variation, the children can also play the quiz in pairs.

These skills are promoted

  • Vocabulary: English names of zoo animals such as hippopotamus, meerkat or rhinoceros
  • Reading: recognize written animal names and match them to the correct picture
  • Recall: name animals for a picture without any choices

To complement this, there is a written vocabulary check on the same vocabulary, a wheel of fortune with a quiz variation and a poster with the words to learn before the quiz.
