Description of the material

In this vocabulary game about Numbers, learners move a game piece around a colorful game board by rolling a die and say each number their piece lands on in English. In primary school English lessons, children can practice number words in a relaxed atmosphere while also honing their pronunciation.

What is included

  • Game board: A path from start to finish with large, colored numerals from zero to twenty-six and event spaces with English instructions such as “Skip a turn!”
  • Game instructions: The course of the game and the meaning of the event spaces in German

Tips for using the material

  • It is recommended to place all game pieces on the start space and take turns rolling the die in order until one person reaches the finish space and wins.
  • The rule for the number spaces is helpful: If you say the number correctly, you stay where you are; if you answer incorrectly, your piece moves back one space.
  • The material provides fixed rules for the event spaces: move forward or backward accordingly, skip a turn for “Skip a turn!”, and roll again for the die symbol.
  • It may be useful to use the game as a station in a station-based activity.

These skills are promoted

  • Vocabulary: recall and say the English number words for the numerals
  • Pronunciation: pronounce the English number words correctly when saying them

Organizational notes

In addition to the game board, a die and game pieces are required for playing.

To complement this, there is another board game about numbers, a memory game about number words, and word and picture cards for introducing number words.
