Description of the material

Primary school children make an accordion book as their own little overview of the English Numbers from zero to twenty-two. Unfolded like an accordion, it shows the corresponding number word as a picture for each digit, so that all the words can be seen at a glance. The accordion book is available pre-labeled or with blanks that the children fill in with the number words themselves.

This is included in the material

  • Crafting instructions: how to glue the strips together, fold them like an accordion, and then paint or fill them in
  • Accordion book template with number words: strips with the digits as a picture and the corresponding English word
  • Accordion book template to fill in: the same strips with writing lines instead of the words
  • Mini versions: both templates in a smaller format

Tips for using the material

  • It is recommended to use the accordion book in individual or partner work.
  • In partner work, the children can quiz each other and go through the number words together.
  • Since the accordion book can be folded up small, the children can take it anywhere and use it there.

These skills are promoted

  • Vocabulary: connect English number words with the corresponding digit
  • Writing: fill in the number words in the blanks of the template
  • Speaking: pronounce number words when quizzing each other
  • Fine motor skills: cutting, gluing, and folding the strips

Organizational notes

The templates are cut out along the outer edge; glue is required to glue the strips together.

To match, there are word and picture cards for introducing the number words, Vocabulary Cards with translation for repetition and a Mini-Test as a learning check for the same vocabulary.
