Description of the material

In this running dictation, children practice English words related to baking such as flour, whisk, or rolling pin by sneaking quietly to word cards around the classroom, memorizing one word, and writing it at their desk next to the corresponding picture on their worksheet.

This is included in the material

  • Instructions explaining how the running dictation works and three rules
  • 40 word cards with a picture and English word to hang around the classroom
  • 8 worksheets, each with 10 pictures to label; for each set of 10 word cards, there are two worksheets with the same pictures

Tips for using the material

  • Selecting words: You can hang up the specific vocabulary that you want to practice, and each child receives a worksheet.
  • Rules: During the running dictation, nothing is copied, no one speaks or reads aloud, and everyone works at their own pace.
  • Start and finish: The children can start on the teacher's signal, and the exercise ends when all the children have written down all the words.

These skills are promoted

  • Vocabulary related to baking, ingredients, fruit, and kitchen utensils
  • Spelling, because the children write down the words they have memorized correctly
  • Memory, because they memorize each word on their way back to their desk

The Vocabulary Cards, Word and Picture Cards, and Vocabulary Poster are also suitable for the topic of baking.
