Description of the material

Running Dictation is a scavenger hunt dictation in which the children read English names for geometric shapes such as triangle, hexagon or crescent on word cards around the classroom, memorize them and write them at their desks next to the corresponding picture. No talking or copying is allowed, and everyone works at their own pace.

This is included in the material

  • Instructions explaining how the scavenger hunt dictation works and three rules
  • 20 word cards, each showing a shape and its English name, from triangle to pentagon
  • 4 worksheets, each with ten shape pictures, two of which show the same shape, so that together they cover all 20 shapes from the word cards

Tips for using the material

  • Word selection: Instead of using all the cards, you can hang up only the vocabulary that is currently being practiced.
  • Procedure: The cards can be hung up in different places around the classroom, each child receives a worksheet, and everyone starts on the teacher's signal; the exercise ends when all the children have written down all the words.

These skills are promoted

  • Vocabulary: match English names for 20 shapes and symbols such as arrow, check mark or star to the corresponding picture
  • Spelling: correctly write down the English words they have read
  • Memory: memorize a word on the way from the card to their desk

To complement this, 2D Shapes are also available as Vocabulary Cards, Word and Picture Cards, Vocabulary Worksheet 1 and a Vocabulary Mini Test.
