Description of the material

In this puzzle about geometric shapes in English, children put together three pieces for each shape: the picture, the English name such as square, rhombus or crescent, and an English sentence describing the shape. Because all the puzzles are cut the same way, the pieces can only be correctly matched if the children read and understand the word and sentence.

What is included

  • 2 puzzle templates, each with 8 three-piece puzzles: the first with shapes such as circle, trapezoid or parallelogram, the second with shapes such as star, octagon or ellipse
  • Instruction page with ideas for use and instructions for the puzzle

Tips for using the material

  • Partner work, stations or individual support: The puzzles can be used in partner work, at stations or in individual support lessons.
  • Cut out and glue in: The children can receive the puzzles already cut out or cut out the templates themselves, mix up the pieces, put them together, and then glue the completed puzzle into their exercise books.

These skills are developed

  • Vocabulary: the English names of basic shapes such as rectangle and semicircle, as well as other shapes such as cross, ring or ellipse
  • Reading comprehension: understanding short English sentences about corners, sides and angles and matching them to the correct shape

On the same topic, there is also a Star Puzzle, a Memo Game and word and picture cards.
