Description of the material

Stand up! is an active game for primary school and kindergarten, with which children share their weekend experiences. Everyone to whom a sentence such as “Stand up if you rode your bike” applies stands up briefly, looks around, and sits down again. While looking around, the children can quickly discover who had similar experiences over the weekend.

What is included in the material

  • Illustrated cards with sentences following the pattern “Stand up if …” about weekend experiences, from sports and outings to baking and sleeping in
  • Overview with all the sentences at a glance
  • Handout with game idea and procedure

Tips for using the material

  • For the start of the week: The game is ideal for the start of school on Monday.
  • Read aloud by the game leader: The game leader can read the sentences one by one.
  • Children read aloud: Alternatively, a child can come to the front and read a card aloud or come up with a sentence of their own.

These skills are promoted

  • Listening carefully, because the children check with each sentence whether it applies to their own weekend
  • Reading aloud and formulating, when a child reads a card aloud or comes up with their own sentence
  • Sense of community and curiosity about one another by sharing experiences in the group

The game is also available for the time after the autumn holidays and the summer holidays, as well as as an icebreaker game for the start of school.
