Autumn: Word and Picture Cards (Board Material for DaZ, DaF, and German Lessons)

Word-picture cards (flashcards) are very versatile in the classroom and can be used in a variety of ways. Here are some ideas:

  • Vocabulary Learning: Word-picture cards can be used to introduce new vocabulary. Learners can associate the new words with the pictures to help them learn.

  • Pronunciation Practice: Teachers can use the cards to practice the pronunciation of words. Learners look at the picture and try to pronounce the corresponding word (together).

  • Vocabulary Games: Flashcards can be used in various games, such as "Matching Games" (matching words and pictures), to reinforce vocabulary in a playful way.

  • Grammar Exercises: They can be used to practice grammatical structures, for example by having learners form sentences using the words shown on the cards.

  • Creative Writing: The cards can be used as inspiration for writing short stories or sentences. Learners look at the pictures and come up with short narratives.

  • Conversation Practice: In pairs or groups, the cards can be used to hold conversations. One person describes the picture while the other guesses the corresponding word.

  • Word Class Sorting: Teachers can use word-picture cards to ask learners to categorize words into different parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.).

  • Learning Stations: At different stations in the classroom, the cards can be used to complete individual learning tasks (e.g., describe the picture, form a sentence, find synonyms).

  • Spelling Exercises: Learners can write down the word that corresponds to a picture, practicing the correct spelling in the process.
